It was back in October, through a few quick exchange of emails, that I first met Geetanjalee, the woman behind the brand The Tan Base. Since she was in the city for just a couple of days, I went down to the Centro store at Banjara hills to have a look at the collection for myself. Never say no to footwear! There are very few affordable Indian brands that offer quality, trendy and clean cut footwear. When I had a look at the 2015 leather collection, I found each and every style to be simple, elegant and comfortable. They offer 100% premium leather footwear in the price range of INR2000 – INR 5000.
I usually save the sky-highs for special occasions, and instances where there is least amount of walking to do. Otherwise I am all for comfort in terms of flats and wedges! From animal print sandals to bright coral sandals (perfect for summers!) to electric blue in crinkled finish leather, there is something for every occasion from The Tan Base. As we chatted over what inspired her to come up with each of these designs, and what was it that she envisioned when deciding things like, where to put the embellishments so that they peeked from under a palazzo, I was already making a mental checklist of which ones I would love to style and how!
The first pair I picked were these bronze colored wedges with heavy embellishments. I think it’s an absolute art to make something as chunky as this look perfectly elegant. I usually go for spikes or studs in shoes but have always stayed away from embellishments as they are often designed very tacky. But this pair was, like she mentioned, perfect to be worn with palazzos, or a sari, with just a hint of sparkle peeking from underneath! A neutral color, with just the right amount of sparkle and total comfort – what more do you need to conquer the festive month?
