Having been part of the blogging industry for five years, it is always inspirational when you come across success stories of people who have started from scratch and gone on to build an incredibly sustainable business. With blogging slowly starting to establish itself as a serious career, and with more and more people opting to take a leap of faith and go into blogging full-time, such stories always serve as a beacon of hope to those who are just starting out. Makeupandbeauty.com was started by the duo Rati and Sanjeev back in 2009 and back then it was just a simple makeup blog. Today IMBB (as it is fondly called) has become a mecca for beauty lovers all over the country. The one place where you get real reviews of all beauty products, old and new.
An exhaustive archive that lists every brand and category, makes it super easy for you to browse and select the products that you want to read about. A love for cosmetics and a serious dearth of Indian websites/blogs that catered to providing reviews on Indian makeup and beauty products was what pushed Rati into starting and co-founding IMBB along with her husband Sanjeev in the first place. It soon turned into a community of beauty enthusiasts and writers. Currently there are about 700 writers who work along side the tight knit team consisting of the two co-founders, a chief editor and an editor.
The very first time I ventured into makeup, I got all my reviews from IMBB. Helpful lists like the best foundations for bridal makeup, best red lipsticks for Indian skintones, best drugstore makeup products etc. make it easy when it comes to choosing products. The reviews are all mostly well written and cover a wide range of brands that are easily available in stores as well as online.
An extension to the beauty blog is Faux Pas, a fashion & personal style blog that features Rati’s personal style posts and numerous envy-worthy travel posts. The travel pictures that are all shot by Sanjeev are a visual treat and being a self confessed travel junkie I’ve found myself pouring over their travel pics time and again, especially when I am planning my vacations.
All in all, this power couple has managed to build a community of people that are passionate about what they do and are also largely obsessed by beauty, fashion and travel! And they continue to delight us with their fashion escapades, and inspire us with their travel tales!
