Being a freelancer or a blogger is no easy job. Aside from all the (so-called) glamour that people seem to associate it with, and all the hard work that goes into running a successful blog , one thing that all bloggers complain about is the inconsistency in getting our paychecks. As a freelancer there is no fixed salary, nor is there a fixed date on which you get a certain amount. But all your expenses and bills arrive right on dot! Well nobody said life’s fair! And this is the kind of career we as bloggers and freelancers have chosen. I’ve had numerous discussions with my blogger friends about how the blogging industry needs to get a bit more standardized to ensure that payments arrive on time and not sixty days after the project has been finished. Luckily there has never been a time when I’ve found myself completely broke or with empty pockets. And that is thanks to planning ahead, and staying on top of things.
But I personally know a lot of people who have been broke or have had emergencies but nowhere to turn to. You never know what kind of adversity might come knocking on your door – medical emergencies, a quick repair of something at home, a shopping spree that is irresistible. Well technically that may not be an emergency, although a Zara sale might qualify as an emergency for some! The point is that it helps to be prepared in advance so that you can face the challenges head-on and triumph over adversity.
1) Better safe than sorry!
I always like to think of the worst case scenario in every situation and be prepared for it. There’s a difference in being pessimistic and being prepared for the worst. You can never predict what’s going to happen next in life but it is always better to be safe and be prepared for all outcomes, to whatever extent you can.
2) Every problem has a solution
Sometimes being in the thick of a problem, you might not be able to see the solution. There’s always a choice, there’s always a plan B, and there’s always a solution to every problem. You just need to want it hard enough and look for it hard enough.
3) Nothing wrong in asking for help
Being smart doesn’t always mean knowing all the answers. It means knowing who is the right person to delegate the task to, when you don’t know the answers. There is nothing wrong in asking family, friends or even strangers for help in times of need. We are all human!
4) Perseverance and patience
Two qualities that will pull you out of any adversity that you are in. No matter how hopeless the situation seems, you need push through until you make it out the other side. Being patient and planning carefully, you can make it out of even the most impossible situations, to a better life.
Birla Sun Life Insurance recently came up with a video that talks about how the human spirit never bows down to whatever insecurities/adversities life throws at you and is always prepared to take the challenges head-on! It also talks about how having savings or even a plan for your finances will help you face your difficulties better. Plan in advance and be prepared for all the highs and lows that life has to offer! #KhudKoKarBuland
