I have an interesting question for you guys.Am sure all of you would agree that your blog or any blog, is a projection of the person behind that blog. At least that is what we all try to do. We try to pour our personalities into our blogs. But at the same time a blog probably represents about 20-30% of who we really are. It’s just a slice of the whole.
So my question is, is it okay for a reader to say – “My opinion about you is based on what you project on your blog. So if my opinion is wrong, its your fault”
Do you agree?
Are we forming opinions about a blogger, solely based on what a blogger writes or the way they dress?
The way I see it, its a double edged sword.
If the answer is yes, we are quick to say that since this doesn’t represent a person’s entire persona/life, its wrong to judge based on only this. We are quick to point a finger and blame them for judging us blindly.
But not many people pause to think about whether the reason for them to judge you ‘blindly’ is because of the kind of image you are projecting – whether consciously or unconsciously. Each person has their own way of perceiving things. Sometimes you might think you are being ‘firm’ or ‘assertive’ but the other person might perceive that as ‘rudeness’ or ‘arrogance’. Or those times when you are trying to be really funny and sarcastic and you are met with a blank stare. Majority of the time, what you project is what people get about you.
As bloggers I agree that the responsibility lies with us to be honest and project who we truly are instead of trying to build a false image. But none of us wants to display our whole persona here either. There are some issues that are private (including your characteristics) and that’s the way they are meant to be.
So if you are a blogger who is always complaining and ranting that people ‘get you wrong’, then let me tell you… the rest of us have a life. Which we would obviously want to spend in a more productive way than sit and analyze your life all day long. If you don’t want people to build on that image that they have about you, stop putting false and arrogant information on your blog or even in day-to-day life for that matter! Granted that its your blog and its totally upto you what you write on it. But keep in mind that what you give is what you get. So suck it up, and quit complaining.
If you are a reader who is saying that your opinions are whole-ly based on what the blogger writes and that is all that you are going to by – then use your brain! Its basic common sense. What you see it not always the entire story. Learn to analyze your inputs, add a few of your own and form opinions accordingly. So you too, suck it up and quit blaming!

Oh-la-laa! Nice! and Is it important to judge people with whatever they project? Nah! As Mother Teresa said, 'If you start judging people, you won't have the time to love them':)

Love that jacket!! Such a fun colour. I think people put too much into a blogger. There is only so much a person can display of themselves on here and one has the right of what and what not to show. We should spend more time truly getting to know them (by asking questions and such) instead of pointing fingers and making someone feel awkward..there is enough of that in the real world. You said it right!! People need to chill out!! xx
love your style! It's super cool!

Good topic! 🙂
I am amazed to see how you come up with such gripping topics every now and then.

I think you summed it up pretty good 🙂
loved the orange blazer 🙂
I suppose I'm guilty of the former… And now that you say it it might be that I'm projecting the wrong image :/ Gah… I feel like a jerk and a fool at the same time 🙁
Would it be imposing if I said, I love this post? You were slam and bang on every count and in every line.
Why get into this whole cycle of judging in the first place, I'm sure all of us have more interesting things to do than sit and judge someone based on what/what not they write or convey.
Loving that you added stripes to this oufit! And hey, my life is chocked full of things as it is. When I look at blogs, I'm there solely for the fashion/entertainment. That's it. I don't care about people that much I guess. hehehe.

Why judge is the whole question! I love your blazer Chandana!
omg..!! loving your blazer..it screams spring 🙂 very pretty.!
http://thechicdairy.blogspot.in/
The post invoked a sense of Deja Vu…I've been on both sides of it.I won't say it's possible to figure a blogger out without knowing him/her,just by reading the posts. Most of the bloggers choose to keep at least a part of their life private and that's totally fine.I dare to differ though but I Do understand it when people want their privacy, after a certain extent. So,a reader's opinion about a blogger isn't necessarily the true one but the one the blogger would like the world to believe, intentionally or unintentionally.
P.S.I LOVE your blazer and tee!Can you please mail me how much your tee cost?I've been looking for a simple classic black and white striped tee since, like,FOREVER!If this one's still available at Max,I'd go BUY IT right away!
I totally agree with AS here, and you too Chandana. People have better things to do than analyze bloggers and their posts. Given the limited attention spans we get from readers who have a million other things to do with their lives, it is better to aim at providing a good, wholesome read rather than worry about what kind of image we are projecting.
Good post, i must say.
well the opinion i have formed about is that you write quite good and have good sense of fashion also. But you too belong to the category of hypocrites. once i have read on Chintan's blog that, just like her you too hate the idea of promoting your blog via giveaways and all. i clearly remember that you also have agreed and supported her detest for increasing the blog followers and FB likes by all these cheap tactics.
And no..i am not any fake identity. it's just that i don't have any blog or so to give a link here. i have always loved reading your blog along with few other good blogs. But seriously the rules of the 'give away' have made me feel otherwise. tch tch.
i hope my honest comment would pass your comment moderation test and would be published. and if in case it passes the test, i am sure your next blog post is gonna be a head strong (befitting?) reply to this. 😀 i am looking forward to you reply. it would fun to read and know how you are going to support your hypocritical act. *Good luck*
What u have said is so true…and i love the jacket.
Hm… I never thought about reading blogs in that way. Blogs to me are just one form of expression from a different person and some people take the time to get to know others and some don't. I know not everyone is going to like my blog and I'm okay with that. However, I have never found a blog I didn't like. Much like I've never met a person I didn't like either.
The moment I read the first part, I was forming an opinion which was similar to yours and then you changed it up and now I am in serious thinking mode….if the reader feels that the image he perceives is solely the writers responsibility and if he/she doesn't like what they read they always have an option of stop reading that particular blog right?. I for one try to steer clear of judging a blogger/writer just through his/her words though if I meet that person I may/may not form an opinion… And seriously You are in an Orange phase:P
Love your orange blazer – especially with the stripes underneath! So cute 🙂

The Other Side of Gray
A very thought provoking blog. I had not thought of 'judging' a blogger or a blog- but rather getting information and gaining more understanding via various blogs- you make a great point and it is a good caution for those both writing blogs and reading them.
I see you're wearing your orange! Very nice 🙂
Your orange blazer is stunning, I saw a seersucker version at the stores yesterday thinking to go and get it. I get what you mean about bloggers and their personalities. And all we have are our images and our writing to exemplify who we are, a lot of it is subject to interpretation!
Peachy jacket and wonderful shots 🙂
Perceptions can be drawn about someone based on their blog but they might not be accurate cause I think most of us only tend to put certain sides of ourselves on our blogs. People shouldn't really judge or blame.
Pretty blazer! Thanks for dropping by my page!
Wooow! I totally love this post! :)However I think the mode in which bloggers express themselves makes a world of a difference. It's all about “how” you display your opinions irrespective of whether one is rude/arrogant/dumb by nature! 🙂
You look great in that outfit! 🙂
I think it all depends on the blog you have! It is obvious that if we have a fashion blog, people will judge us exactly on that, but I am with you…a blog is just a very small part of us!
Thanks for your comment!

I don't think people should base what they think about a person on that person's blog. It's very unfair and I know a lot of successful bloggers with such glamorous life but when you meet them they are the shyest person you'll ever know and I think its pretty amazing. I agree as well with you that bloggers share a lot of about herself/himself in writing but def. not enough to be able to tell about the whole persona of a person. =) Anways I totally <3 your blazer! 😛

Hmm, definitely interesting point to bring up. I agree, a person's whole character cannot be displayed on a blog. You try to be honest and forthright with your readers, but honestly? That's just a piece of who you are. People are too complex to limit and judge them according to a blog!
Anyway, love your bright outfit! Especially the jacket and your belt <3

I have always felt a blog is only a medium of expression, and does not reflect the personality of an individual to a large extent. That said, clothes do. So yea, if people read you and see what you wear/how you look – then cant be too much of a mistake, can it 🙂
I am always very careful about my I post. For it to be a representation about who I am, but not to give away too much. there should always be (in my opinion) a balance between authenticity and mystery. Have a great week. xx
Love your tangerine blazer, it's absolutely stunning and looks so beautiful with your skintone!
Blogging is a funny thing… I mainly try not to worry if people “get me wrong” on my blog. I try to project an honest representation of who I am. You can't please everyone all the time 🙂
xox,

loved ur jacket .. About judging part , I usually don't judge the person by what they write.. like u said its just a part of their persona… I know bloggers who write very superficial but they have a super great heart and very loveable in person .. Nice post BTW.. 😀

Sometimes it can be quite difficult showing our true personalities on a blog, but after I read a blog for awhile, I do get a sense of their tastes.
Cute jacket!
Cute jacket. And yes, that's a loaded question. I personally form opinions based on what I read, because that's all I know. I'm sure if I were to meet bloggers in person, and they're drastically different from their blog personalities (good or bad) that would change. Who is to blame in such a situation? Well, both, I guess. But I don't over-think it because I know people are forming opinions about me also.
I am an optimist- I do believe in the good in people, and hope everyone is being nice for real! Of course, it's just not possible for bloggers to pour all our hearts out in a single post, however, I always can sense the honesty and kindness… 🙂 You look great, by the way! I adore striped outfits!
Good luck!

A blog is like a book. There's a writer, and a narrator (or protagonist). I'm trying to say something, but maybe there's a different persona saying what I intend to say, giving what I say a different meaning and tone altogether.
But the idea is the same.
I think the reader should interpret me however she/he wants. I'm trying to put my best work out into the blogosphere, and keep myself updated with my own life. I like taking photos of my outfits to further my own interest in clothing, style, and fashion. I like writing about my interests in music and literature to document my own taste and personality for a future me to review.
My blog is my blog, but it is also as much my readers'.
// SOYCONFESSIONS.BLOGSPOT.COM
we ofcourse form the opinions on the basis of what the bloggers write n picture on the blog because all the bloggers almost claim that put all their heart in the blogs n that 100% of what they do on the blog is how they r in personal life…they swear on being TRUE to their readers..so i think,we do trust them on that..
Love the orange blazer!!!! 🙂
http://lifewidmorbid.blogspot.com/
LOVE that blazer! The colour is stunning and it looks amazing with the stripes.
Great topic, I totally see what you mean. A blog is just a snippet of it's writer.
The bottom line is that no-one can keep everybody happy, in life & in blogging, there will always be someone who doesn't agree or who makes judgement and that's just the way life is, to thine own self be true.
we love the jacket!!

what a great post…all of your points are very valid. i try to be pretty true to myself when writing, but if i were to be completely honest, i would post pictures of my messy house and me on my very worst day…but i don't (nobody really wants to see that)! great post!
First , that is a very lovely blazer!!
Second, I totally agree with you. In my view we are here to appreciate (not always!) what others are showing us and we are entitled to our own opinions but JUDGING people is definitely not a part of that!!

Hi, thanks for visiting our blog 🙂 I am now following yours blog, follow me back…?
It's an interesting discussion you've raised here. I think, obviously, everyone should be considerate and non-judgemental when commenting on blogs. However, as a blogger, you have to realise you are putting yourself out there and people will judge you, good or bad. It's a risk you take.
Anyway, keep writing. Love the jacket.

Interesting topic, and well written.
I'm relatively new to blogging, but I've been reading (& enjoying!) fashion blogs for a long time, & honestly, I've never formed an opinion on a blogger as a person based on what they write in their blog. It seems pretty common-sense to me that everyone has their own life, and their blog reflects only a certain part of their interests or personality. I really hope other people have the same thing in mind when they read blogs (including mine)…
Love your orange sweater 🙂

Fabulously thought provoking post. I guess I've never really read blogs in a judgmental way – I'm never trying to extrapolate the blog onto the person, rather I appreciate what's unique about them and respect their opinions without putting too much more thought into it than that.
Love your blazer, the colour is stunning. Thanks so much for visiting me 🙂
Wow, such a heavy topic and you have put forth your point very clearly. Just out of curiosity I wondered if I would have been able to do this post this clearly, but I felt that I am not yet that clear-headed. Hats off Chandana!!

Love the orange colour, its so much fun!
I never make any judgement on how a person is by merely reading a post or two. People you know for years are unpredictable and forever surprising, so judging a person via his/her blog is strictly a no-no for me.
I stopped to judge, criticize or look only surface. We must to search for the best in people…
Love your look, orange/coral color gives so fresh twist to the whole outfit!:)

Love your jacket..Orange is THE colour 🙂 And like the content of the post too! When you follow someone's blog, you do tend to form opinions based on what they write because that's the first thing our mind does, whether we like it or not! sad but true:) But the readers need to understand that the blog in itself is not what the blogger is truly made of! They could be good or bad IRL..And they need to take with a grain of salt! Great post!
CUTE LOOK! I love it.
On your question: I think you can make some assumptions, but definitely not all about a blogger based on his/her blog. Even their friends in real life don't know the whole them. I think you can have your opinions on their writing style and their blog, but you can't judge the actual person behind it.
nice blazer

i love the color of your blazer, it looks perfect on you!! loved your blog, wanna follow each other? xo
thanks!! i am following you too baby xo
I agree. The blogger presents him or herself in a certain light, and we the readers only know that which is presented. True, our opinion of the person may be wrong, but we only go by whatwe have.
Take for example the fact that we expect actors to be the same as their roles, yet we know that each role is different and the actor is only one person.
However, since we can only go by what we see or read, we automatically assume.
I am in 100% agreement with what you are saying here. There are days when I feel that the blogging world is like high school all over again. The reality is that no one is going to be able to project who they are as a whole through an internet blog, but at the same time, what you write and put out, is what people are going to see and analyze. More importantly people need to realize that blogging is meant to be fun, if feelings are getting hurt then maybe they should get out of blogging. You are always going to have lovers and haters; its a given. 🙂
love your orange blazer!
I know I try to keep my judgy side to a minimum, but not everyone does. Also I'm not trying to put 100% of me out there. Privacy does matter to me. I think at best I'm allowing the general public access to about 15% of my total life on my blog. Probably more like 65% on facebook, but then I only friend people I actually know!
Great post!

http://theclosetintervention.blogspot.com/
I almost never form opinions based on blogs! Because, as you said, it is just 20-30% of us. Maybe even a smaller percentage! The main thing is to write, share ideas and thoughts and to have fun while doing that. Isn't it? 🙂
Pretty! That punch of coral is gorgeous in the sunlight…perfect for gray dreary days when you need a pick-me-up!
Awesome post btw…blogging should only be for positive people don't you think?? Bloggers and readers alike, after all, it is an art form…no judgement necessary!

Interesting. I must say, just by having a blog is an invitation for scrutiny. So you've got to be prepared for criticism. BUT, I also don't understand the bloggers who constantly complain and whine about their lives and then complain about people not understanding them. I think you have to be careful about the image you project online.
Ha I just comment on what is said and dont think beyond judging anyone and anything they say.

Hi,
First of all, thanks for your visit !
About the topic that you raised in this post, I can only say this much that I believe in the live and let live policy and believe that we should be positive always ! as Mother Teressa said once- if you judge people all the time ( on the basis of what they project ) you won't have time to love them.
You have an interesting blog and I would love to visit again
Take care

You are right – i think many bloggers and in general people on the internet try to project the best image possible – everybody is trying to look their best and be the best and of course they get upset when people dont see them how they wanna be seen.
complaining about that will only make them seem bitter and whiny about their online image and its only comments anyway. Its not like people like me know how you act in “reality”, how funny or sarcastic you really are…

OMG, what you just wrote there is a comment trigger, so I can't help myself but to comment on it. First of all nice to meet you, my name is Lola – Lo stands for Love and La stands for laughter 😉
Well if a reader says something like my opinion about you is based on what you project on your blog, that's a little short sighted, or a tunnelvisioned opinion.
However if you go out publicly with your believings etc. don't mind it if people will have the need to put a comment out there. If you can't handle it, don't blog and the most important thing, do not take it personally 😉 You don't know the person, most likely never met the person and probably never will and second of all you can't please everybody 😉
I am a great example of that myself, I was afraid to put my blog out there with the things I like because I was afraid of criticism and thought that comments would burn me all down. And then I thought oh well don't be such a softy..(so I sucked it up lol) Of course not everybody is going to like my blog and some people may have opinions (and you know what they are entitled to, because we live in a free world), but this is a blog you can delete the bad comments 😉
So thinking of that it made me feel much better!!

This is such a tricky question. I hope that I present myself in the same manner that I do in real life, but I'm sure that I can come off differently, you know? I've heard people say that their blog is nothing but a sliver of their personality/lifestyle/beliefs/actions and isn't to be taken too seriously. I don't entirely agree – a blog inevitably reveals a lot more about its author than the author may believe or intend. We're all judgmental to varying degrees – and it's perfectly natural and normal to do so – but take what you see on a blog with a grain of salt. No, it certainly isn't the whole story but it does tell enough to form fair opinions.
On another note – this is one of my favorite looks. The orange blazer makes this outfit shoots through the roof in terms of style and uniqueness. Really, this makes me want an orange blazer myself!

thanks for stopping by! definitely a tough subject to approach. i think as a blogger there is only so much you can put out there. personally, i don't like to judge too much because really we don't know someone's story and it wouldn't be fair to judge based on half truth. in any case, i think that what we do learn about one at least gives us a good glimpse into who they might be!

I feel sorry that this one giveaway changed your opinion about my blog. I feel sorry that you jumped at the chance of accusing me and proving me to be a hypocrite rather than at the chance of leaving appreciative comments, which you had the opportunity to do so.. since you said you have been enjoying reading my blog since a long time (at least that's what you claimed!)
The fact that you chose to remain anonymous slightly puts me off from answering your question immediately and also speaks volumes about your character.
I am extremely grateful to everybody who follows my blog and comments on my blog. I enjoy reading every single comment. Especially on posts like this one, its so interesting to read everybody's thoughts and opinions. On my part the least I can do for all those who have followed my blog, is to keep up a good stream of posts with interesting content and good quality pictures. Those who genuinely like it will stick around and the others will walk away.
I also try to comment back on as many blogs as I possibly can (because I am not a full time blogger)
And coming to the point of hypocrisy – aren't we all? Even the biggest names in blogging/fashion blogging need an audience (in the form of followers or in the form of votes). Unless you promote yourself, you cannot be noticed in this sea of a gazillion blogs. But I don't over-do it. I know where to draw the line. If I am hosting a giveaway every other week, with a hundred conditions to fulfill (like tweeting about it, blogging about it, extra entries if you do this-and-that) I will accept all your 'accusations'. That being said, leaving a negative comment anonymously is the biggest form of hypocrisy I can think of.
Just like I said in this very post, however much you portray yourself in the 'right way' there are people (like you) who interpret things differently. I am not going to even try and convince you that I did not host this giveaway with the aim of gaining more publicity. I was approached by many other companies before this, but I struck a chord with boticca immediately. It was totally up to my taste and so I agreed to host the giveaway. I am not justifying my actions. The last thing I want to do is explain myself to an anonymous somebody. Just stating to you in plain simple words why I did, what I did.
But seriously, provide at least an email address if you are so concerned about revealing your identity on a public platform(if not that just means you are as fake as the rest of the anonymous commenters). My posts are not for replying to anonymous comments. I won't be doing this in every post.
I love the casual look.
You look super chic here Chandana…
and yes, whether we like it or not-what we write or how we express ourselves on our blogs, have people forming opinions of you…
point is-do we care?
we write what we want to express not how we want to be perceived-at least I do:-)
What a lovely jacket! I'm glad that you like my city – it truly is beautiful! Thank you for leaving a comment on my blog and the compliment!

so true. We are so quick in forming an opinion about someone, so it goes for a blogger too.
And the trouble is when someone else does that to us, we wud not like the person if their opinion doesn't please us.
Well, instead of assuming things, best is to shut up or maybe get to know the person better before commenting.

I totally agree with you! I hate it when ppl judge superficially! They just see one aspect and assume the rest….
But anyways, great blazer! & thanks for visiting my blog & commenting! 😉
I'm following you. Would you like to follow back too? hehe ;p
