When I talk about clothing, about having the ‘basics’ covered or investing in the right kind of ‘basic pieces’, people always wonder what exactly falls under basic – “I might be someone who simply cannot do without cheetah prints and bright florals. Red lipstick might be my basic everyday shade. Glittery pink shoes and fur coats might be my daily essentials”. Okay, the last part is a stretch but you get the picture. For me, I would define basics as those pieces that are the foundation of your entire look. A piece that is the starting point from where your entire outfit begins to fall into place.
A jeans and a tee has been the classic basic since forever. If you are someone like me, basics might be your go-to look. A good fitted skinny jeans, a solid colored dress, a back skirt, a floral shirt – these are all essentials that I cannot do without. But at the same time, I like to give my own spin to these, add something different so that the look stands out. You know how they say, a plain black tshirt never has to be boring? The awesome thing about basics is that they provide the perfect canvas for you to go crazy on!
So I took my favorite ripped boyfriend denims, and added a cowl neck black top, and instead of the go-to red or black pumps, I added a pair of sparkly stone studded block heels. It sounds super simple, but I love how different it turned out and how the lip color just makes the entire look pop!
