Diwali this year was extra special because it was the first Diwali we celebrated at our own place. It was simple and nothing over the top or special, but it was special none the less! Diwali has always been one of my favourite festivals and I have so many good memories associated with it. I’ve always loved the way it was celebrated at my parent’s place. The preparation leading up to it, going to out shopping to buy new decor items, lights and finally decking ourselves up, and the house for the big day. Diwali was one day we went all out with bling! Shopping an outfit for Diwali was always a big deal, and I could never wait to dress up and shine like a disco ball! Decorating the house and coming up with DIY decor ideas was another favourite thing to do. It was also the time when the entire family would come together, and we would go a tad bit overboard with clicking pictures. Things change so much when you get married. New traditions, new rituals and new people. While it’s nice to do something new, you tend to miss your old life. And this time there was a perfect balance, because I could recreate a little part of my cherished memories at our house, and then have a completely different celebration at my in-laws house.
This was a pre-Diwali shoot with one of the Diwali outfits I had in mind (yes there’s always more than one!). We decided to visit Charminar to lend a bit of an old world charm to the pictures.
What are some of your favourite Diwali memories?
